Do It Better Project
The idea of the Do It Better project was to take a project that you had worked on earlier in the year that you weren't that proud of or never got to finish, and to complete it or do it better. Originally, our group didn't know what we were going to do. But then we noticed something: our physics videos were completely wrong. You see, there was a major typo in the instructions for that project that caused everyone to base their videos around the wrong subjects. While the videos we finished were all about SPORTS, it turned out that they were actually supposed to be about STORKS! And so, not wanting to accidentally miss an opportunity to research our favorite long necked wading birds, we decided to make a true PHYSICS OF STORKS VIDEO!
CONCEPTS:
Storks sure do know a lot about physics. And now we do too!
Gravity is the attraction of one mass to another.
Lift is a force created by the flying object in order to overcome the force of gravity.
Thrust is a force to move forward,
Drag is the friction of the medium that the object is flying through.
PEAKS N' PITS:
PEAKS:
-Basically this entire project. This entire video idea was based off one lame pun. Storks don't even live in California! How in the world could this work? I dunno, but I think it did. The script was a joy to write, and I got to squeeze in a few jokes (the sombrero joke for example) I had been wanting to put in a video since the beginning of the year. The filming, while it took a while longer than we had originally expected it to
-Beating Nicholas at Smash Bros. Okay, so remember that part at the end of the video where I recorded Noah doing his voice overs and slowly panned over to Nick playing Smash Bros on his Wii? Yeah, that happened. Hey, we couldn't do anything else while he was recording! Anyways, the point is I picked up the game without playing in months, chose the worst character, used a confusing controller that I didn't know how to use, and played against Nick, who is already pretty good, and who was using his best character. AND I WON!!! AAWWWW YEEAAAHHHH!!! #Getdestroyednick #iwonandyoulost #Iwillneverstopholdingthisaboveyou #ohyeahandafternoahfinishedhisvoiceoversweworkedonthevideotoo #wewerentbeingcompletelyuseless #justwantedtomakethatclear
PITS:
-The stork puns. Oh god. When we finished writing the script, we started making puns with the word "stork." They were funny at first, but then it just got out of hands. The last 12 pages of our 15 page script are entirely filled with these (no, I'm not exaggerating. That's literally how many pages we filled with stork puns). I guess it is kinds impressive how much mileage we got out of that one joke though...so that's a plus...
-The death of our sombrero. Our sombrero actor, Dreidel, was injured in an unfortunate accident on set. When Noah thew off our Mexican hat friend right before the title card appeared, he accidentally tore the brim. Dreidel the hat was immediately rushed into intensive care. This tragic event left much of the crew stunned and depressed, but we pushed on, even without Dreidel. Dreidel died in the hospital four hours later. The final video is dedicated to his memory.
REFLECTION:
Next time, I really need to pitch my jokes to make sure they are funny to people other than me. That whole "Nick robot" thing kinda falls flat because I thought that if it made sense in my head everyone else would think it was funny and understand it too.
