Type 1 Diabetes:
Huntington’s Disease:
Cushing’s Disease
- Type 1 Diabetes is caused by a gene mutation where your body doesn’t produce enough insulin to regulate blood sugar levels.
- The problem with the current therapies for Type 1 Diabetes is that they have to get insulin shots whenever their insulin levels get too low, meaning they have to take many shots.
- A possible solution for Type 1 Diabetes would be to have insulin patches instead of shots. These insulin patches would be hooked up to a detector to measure insulin levels in the blood. When the detector detects a need for more insulin, it activates an electromagnet that switches polarity, pushing the magnetized insulin out the patch and through the skin.
Huntington’s Disease:
- Huntington's disease is a neurodegenerative genetic disease that ultimately leads to extreme forms of dementia. Dementia affects muscle movement and behavior and leads to delirium or mental decline.
- HD is a repeat of C, A, and T in chromosome 4. The main reason for the holdup in research and experiments towards a cure is the moral ethics of HD. A theoretical cure requires careful biotechnical engineering to cut or dissolve the extra repeats in chromosomes in the victim's embryo, preventing Huntington’s disease.
- Throwing all ethics aside, a very real and plausible solution to Huntington's disease would be to simply map out the victims genes, and use “Molecular Scissors” (T.A.L.E.N.) to cut out the gene [as long as it is 1 gene causing the disease] allowing the
Cushing’s Disease
- Cushing’s Disease is a syndrome caused by a tumor of the pituitary gland - it is when your body has abnormally high levels of cortisol.
- Doctors may prescribe a medication to regulate cortisol levels and to ease the pain of symptoms. The tumors caused by this disease can be cancerous, meaning that surgical removal may be required. Radiation therapy or chemotherapy might also be recommended. There are many problems with these treatments. The side-effects of radiation and chemotherapy are especially devastating to the body, and even surgical removal has terrible side-effects. Chemotherapy’s side-effects include constant fatigue, hair loss, blood disorders, and more.
